I MET DARYL BEAR, THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF THE WOODLANDS SYMPHONY, WELCOMED ME AS A FAMILY, AND IT REALLY HAS BEEN AN OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFETIME TO PERFORM ON STAGE AT THE CYNTHIA MITCHELL PAVILION. HOWEVER, A LOT OF OUR CONCERTS VARY IN TERMS OF THE LOCATIONS WE PLAY AT LOCAL CHURCHES, SO HAVING A VENUE THAT WE COULD CALL HOME WOULD MEAN SO MUCH TO THE MUSICIANS AS WELL AS TO OUR AUDIENCE. AND I'VE NEVER SEEN AUDIENCES QUITE AS EXCITED OR AS LARGE AS AT OUR CONCERTS. SO IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN TO ONE OF THEM, YOU DEFINITELY NEED TO ATTEND. THE WOODLANDS SYMPHONY SERVES THE COMMUNITY IN SEVERAL WAYS. FIRST OF ALL, THE REPERTOIRE ATTRACTS BOTH SEASONED CONCERT GOERS AND FIRST TIME CONCERT GOERS. I HAVE THREE NEPHEWS. THEY'RE SIX, FIVE AND FOUR, AND THEY CANNOT WAIT FOR US TO PERFORM VIDEO GAME MUSIC, INCLUDING MINECRAFT AND SUPER MARIO BROTHERS AT OUR NEXT CONCERT LATER THIS MONTH. THE OTHER WAY THAT THE WOODLANDS SYMPHONY SERVES THE COMMUNITY IS IT PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR TALENTED MUSICIANS TO SHOWCASE THEIR TALENTS AND THERE IS A LOT OF TALENT IN THE WOODLANDS. FINALLY, WE ARE A SOURCE OF PRIDE FOR THE COMMUNITY. I CAN TELL YOU I'VE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY IN A NUMBER OF ORCHESTRAS ALL OVER HOUSTON, INCLUDING DOWNTOWN AND THOSE OTHER ORCHESTRAS. LOOK AT THE WOODLANDS SYMPHONY TO SEE WHAT WE'RE DOING AND TO COMPARE THEMSELVES TO OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS. ONE OF MY FAVORITE MEMORIES OF PLAYING WITH THE SYMPHONY WAS OUR FIRST CONCERT, WHERE WE PERFORMED BEATLES MUSIC, AND IT WAS AT ROB FLEMING PARK, AND YOU COULD LOOK OUT FOR AS FAR AS YOU COULD SEE. AND THEY HAD THE FANS HAD THOSE LIGHTS, AND IT WAS JUST LIKE A SEA OF LIGHTS. IT SEEMED TO GO ON FOREVER. AND THAT'S KIND OF WHAT THE EXPERIENCE IS LIKE FOR ME. I HAVE GOOSEBUMPS STILL TO THIS DAY FROM LOOKING OUT AT THAT AUDIENCE. WE DIDN'T PLAY WATERED DOWN MUSIC AND ARRANGEMENTS. WE PLAYED THE ACTUAL ABBEY ROAD SOUNDTRACK AND THE AUDIENCE LOVED IT. AND THEY CHANGED THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT CODE TO DO THAT. THEY HAVE TWO PROVISIONS IN THE LAW TO SAY IN THE LAW THAT RELATE TO PENALTIES. FIRST ONE HAS TO DO WITH COMMERCIAL PERFORMANCES, AND THE PENALTY FOR THAT IS $10,000 PLUS COSTS. SO IT'S A FAIRLY SIGNIFICANT PENALTY. THE PENALTY FOR ACTUALLY PARTICIPATING IN ONE OF THESE PERFORMANCES UNDER THE PENAL CODE AND PENALTY FOR THAT IS IT'S A CLASS A MISDEMEANOR, WHICH IS $4,000 FINE UP TO A YEAR IN JAIL OR BOTH. SO THIS IS A SERIOUS OFFENSE. WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE PARK CODE, THE ONLY PENALTIES IN THERE ARE $500 FINE. IF THEY'RE CONVICTED OR THEIR OF OF DOING SOMETHING THAT VIOLATES THE CODE, WHICH IS REALLY INSIGNIFICANT COMPARED ESPECIALLY [00:30:02] TO THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE LEGISLATURE ACTUALLY THINKS THIS SUBJECT HAS GIVEN THE KINDS OF PENALTIES THEY PUT INTO INTO THE LAW. I THINK WHERE WE CAN TANGENTIALLY TOUCH UPON THAT IS WHEN WE'RE LOOKING AT THE SITE SELECTION ASPECTS, YOU CAN LOOK AT THE PROS AND CONS OF EACH SITE, RIGHT? THAT IF YOU'RE ON A SMALLER PIECE OF PROPERTY, THERE'S LESS TRANSIT ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT THAT'S AVAILABLE AROUND THAT SITE.
